The Buea Council has received the sum of 15 million FCFA from a partner and “son of the soil”, along with three tricycles from the South West Regional Assembly, to enhance the sustainable management of household waste within the municipality. In addition, the Council has secured 100 wheelbarrows to support this initiative.

As part of this renewed strategy, waste bins will be installed at strategic points across all neighborhoods to promote proper waste disposal. The Council has announced that fines will be issued to individuals found dumping garbage on the streets, as it steps up efforts to curb indiscriminate waste disposal.

“In the past, people did not leave their houses and throw dirt at every other point in town. Complexes will be visited. Landlords must ensure trash cans are available, and residents will only be allowed to bring out their waste on the appointed date and time,” David Mafany Namange, Mayor of the Buea Municipality, stated.

It is hoped that this initiative will put an end to poor waste disposal practices, which have resulted in mounting garbage heaps along streets and neighborhoods in Buea
